Messy Church is a congregation of families and friends who meet regularly to enjoy informal worship and learning about bible stories in a friendly, relaxed and sociable environment. We use Pinhoe Primary School’s hall where we spread out and enjoy stories, craft activities and food together.

Messy Church

is about having time together

… to have fun

… to explore faith

… to worship God

… and to have a meal.

Messy Church aims to welcome everyone, include everyone, and value everyone. We hope and pray that every family member will enjoy being a part of Messy Church and will find it a place where friendships flourish, spiritual life deepens and love blossoms.

Families join us from 3.30pm when we share a snack and some simple activities before learning what our theme for the day is. The leaders introduce this and guide the children in a number of craft workshops that illustrate the story. Parents: feel free to muck in with the glue and poster paint and share a creative time with your children! After this the group gathers for a short worship time – this could be a story, a video, games or singing, to round out the theme of the day. Finally we go back into the hall for a meal together around a shared table. We celebrate any birthdays before heading off around 6.00pm.

Messy Church‘s invitation is open to any young families, not just from our host school. Come along after school time from wherever you are. Working parents, and siblings from other schools, etc are free to join us at any time during the afternoon. Messy Church isn’t neat or tidy, it is fluid and welcoming. There’s always more icing on faces than on cakes, and paint running down someone’s elbows.

Messy Church meets at Pinhoe School on the third Thursday of the month during term times, 3.30pm – 6.00pm (with some variations). Click here to see our current Messy Church flyer and timetable of events.
